Our mission is to end domestic violence and sexual assault in Southern Illinois and to assist survivors of these crimes and their non-offending significant others.
One of the first domestic violence centers in the country, The Survivor Empowerment Center was created in 1972 by a group of visionaries who recognized the need for a safe, secure environment for Southern Illinois domestic survivors and their children. We are pro-choice in all aspects of women's social, educational, financial, family, and legal rights...We also grew the geographic area in which we provided services; starting in Jackson County but evolving over the decades to include Franklin, Gallatin, Johnson, Perry, Saline, Union and Williamson counties.
