In 2023, our Domestic Violence Shelter provided over 8,700 nights of safety and over 5,800 nights of transitional housing, almost 10,000 hours of counseling and responded to over 5,200 crisis hotline calls. Our Rape Crisis Center also reached over 85,600 individuals through community, institutional, and group services.
Survivor Empowerment Center has operated continuously since its founding more than 50 years ago. Our staff of professionals and trained volunteers are dedicated to helping people regain control of their lives, their choices, and their futures.
One of the first domestic violence centers in the country, The Women's Center, Inc. was created in 1972 by a group of women who recognized the need for a safe, secure environment for southern Illinois women and their children. Since our name change, we still strive for a future of this environment.
